If anything is obvious about who I am, it’s that I have a…..ahem……..problem….with getting sucked into collecting items – particularly Disney items. My most recent obsession was spurred on when I visited a friend’s house in New York for the first time at the beginning of the year. I immediately fell in love with the look of her family’s Disney plates lining the walls and knew I wanted to do something similar in the future. Since my apartment was tiny, this idea was shoved to the back of my mind and only resurfaced again once my roomie and I moved to our new apartment with the high, vaulted ceilings. I quickly started perusing Ebay and Etsy to start saving everything I could find (cheap and expensive alike) and purchased two for myself. I plan to get another (affordable – aka $15 and under) plate to have a trio of plates to display above my vanity for now, but over time will grow this collection as much as possible.
So far my collection is made up of this amazing 101 Dalmatians plate entitled “A Happy Reunion:”
…and this Cinderella plate entitled “O Sing Sweet Nightingale.”
The majority of affordable plates seem to be by the company Bradford Exchange and Knowles, and most can be found on eBay from around $5-$50. If you dig around a bit, you’ll see that the same plate will be offered at a wide variety of price points. The Cinderella one, I originally found on Etsy for about $40, but loved it so much that I specifically looked for it on eBay and BOOM! Found it for $5.
I’ve been having some trouble deciding on a third plate to fill my collection out for the time being and thought you all could chime in and help me choose! Here are the top contenders:
I’m personally quite fond of the idea of keeping my plate collection limited to “classics” for these first three, but feel like I can’t truly have any sort of Disney collection without representing Belle….Plus, there’s a Beauty & the Beast plate with Beast in human form! And we all know what a sucker I am for Beast in human form. Decisions, decisions, decisions!
I’ve been trying to work on convincing my roomie to let us hang Brandford’s commemorative Disneyland-themed collection of plates featuring the characters in costume in various Disneyland landmarks.
But she seems hesitant, so my primary focus has been on finding plates to add to my collection in the future. Here are others I will hopefully acquire over time!
Anyone else have a collection of these plates going? Show me what you’ve got!
