My Week of Closet Disneybounding (08/08/16-08/12/16)

Collage_Fotor

With my latest plans to head to Disneyland cancelled due to the “big move,” I decided to finally take the plunge on recording a week of Disneybounding at home for my blog to bring a little bit of that magic into my daily routine. The bounds you’ll find featured this week are bounds that I would, for various reasons, not wear to Disneyland – whether it be because a certain clothing item is too tight to execute the bound at a theme park, or it’s a character whose outfit I wouldn’t normally choose to bound. I wanted to, for the first time, work purely from my closet without purchasing additional items to solidify any of the bounds – a surprisingly difficult, yet enjoyable task! I adore being able to look at what I have to try to come up with silhouettes and color combinations that would sufficiently and (to a degree) recognizably represent Disney characters. For those of you who don’t know, Disneybounding is the process of choosing clothing items from your closet or in your personal style that in some way or other represent specific Disney characters and themes, and it’s a great way to pull in some magic to your wardrobe if you’re feeling a little stuck.

So without further ado, I present to you My Week of Closet Disneybounding!

Love,

Miss Lark Bahar

Day 1: Ariel

While Ariel was my favorite princess as a child, I’ve always been partial to her human wardrobe rather than her mermaid look. I’m not a huge one for color blocking since I generally either choose to feature all one color, or some kind of print on top and bottom to break looks up, so I knew that mermaid Ariel would never be a Disneybound look I’d wear to Disneyland itself (unless I ended up moving to California and was able to go to Disney often enough to change this). Since Ariel’s still one of my favorite princesses, and I knew I had the colors required to bound as Ariel, I knew she’d be a perfect start to my week! The earrings – really the best addition to any Ariel bound – are actually from my very first bound which happened to be Kiss the Girl Ariel. The skirt was originally used for a Buzz Lightyear Disneybound in the parks but everyone kept guessing Ariel, so I figured….well, I know it works! I was going to wear a circle skirt but then realized that a pencil skirt would emulate her tail much better anyway. The large hat I ended up wearing to emulate Ariel’s hair was actually my roommate’s idea, so shout out to her!

Day 2: Genie

I knew this bound wouldn’t be the most recognizable one, so not a bound I would choose to wear to the parks unless going in a group, but I’m quite happy with the look anyway. Love that pop of red paired with the blues! If I wasn’t working purely from items already in my wardrobe, I would definitely have found a blue for the bottom lighter than the navy skirt I used, but then that would defeat the purpose of this week. Also, my roomie came to the rescue again by suggesting I take my photo with my Turkish carpet today to fit in with the whole look. This look was put together more for the colors than a silhouette.

Day 3: Snow White

This is actually a Disneybound that I WOULD consider wearing to the parks…if my little sister hadn’t already worn the same yellow skirt for the same bound in Disneyland. It’s just too perfect! Also decided to whip out one of my warmer tops for this since I liked the idea of really playing up the 1950s look and what better way to do that than with a slash neck top? This is actually the first time I’ve tried to pin my hair up into a shorter bob, so that was a fun endeavor. Looked pretty cute! Though a bit too…well-coiffed for the way I’d want my short hair to look, probably, if I actually got it cut that way. I even donned purple eyeshadow for this bound!

Day 4: Mushu

This is another character I chose knowing I would probably never bound him in Disneyland since he’s not terribly recognizable being…well…mostly red. I was debating between wearing a felt skirt and peasant top combo and this velvet dress and finally opted for the latter feeling the texture of the material gave the same depth fire gives. I threw on a hair scarf and earrings to emulate the color in his horns, and voila! Mushu. Plus, I threw on the gold pin thinking maybe it looked sorta sword-ish?

Day 5: Belle

Honestly, I have never been so excited for or happy with a Disneybound in my life. Belle, my main girl, has been a bound I’ve wanted to throw together for AGES, but never quite had the right pieces for. I recently purchased a beautiful blue and silver gown to wear for a fancier Belle bound, but for the casual look, I knew I wanted to use the Pinup Girl Clothing underskirt as an overskirt to emulate Belle’s apron, and I already had a proper white top and black flats to use, so it was only a matter of finding the blue gown to pull everything together. I found the dress months ago and was ECSTATIC when I did. Plus, how adorable is the handmade book brooch?? The only reason I didn’t save this bound for Disney itself is because the dress is MUCH too small in the bust for me to be able to wear to a theme park. Doesn’t really allow for much movement at all. But you can bet I’ll be using the rest of the look to bound Belle at the parks some time in the future 😉 Will just have to play around with the hair a bit more to get the bow to show properly…and acquire the right lipstick! Definitely would’ve gone with a dusty rose shade if I’d had it. And then hope that I’d actually be let in!

OUTFIT ROUNDUP CATCH-UP/MASTERPOST: (07/04/2016-08/06/2016)

I’ve been so bad about the outfit roundups lately…..sorry, guys! Life’s been all over the place with the move, and these take a bit too long for me to make time for ’em lately. I promise I’ll go back to writing them every week after this.

Enjoy!

This was the first run this summer of a dress that accidentally disappeared in my closet. A huge shame since it’s the perfect summer staple for those days its too hot to wear…anything, really. Good thing summer in Tucson lasts 3/4 of the year! I had fun color blocking the various shades of purple – something I’ve started doing recently.

This is another one of those “I know I don’t have to walk in the heat, so I’m going to wear sleeves” outfits. Always happy when I can don this ballerina-printed dress! Despite the fact that the bust is about 4″ too small. (Excuse my bruised up legs….moving is quite the chore!)

This Tuesday’s Look

Having received a whole bundle of items from the wonderful shop Lady K Loves the past week (review to come), I knew I had to try to avoid wearing and showing off the items until my blog post, but just couldn’t resist at least wearing the staple piece that came in the lot! So I planned this outfit around the beautiful black wrap top.

This Thursday’s Look

This was the last little hurrah for this dress of mine as it’s simply too short and the bust too small. It’s currently on its way to a new home, but not before I got to pair it with one of my new hats gifted to me so kindly by my great aunt for a cute, Southern Belle kinda feel!

This Friday’s Look

I’ve been avoiding wearing this skirt as it’s a part of a set custom made for me by Ains & Elke Stylehaus that I planned on reviewing, but I’m so booked that I figure eh…….people will forget by the time I get to it 😉 And also….balloons!

I love love love this outfit for a whole slew of reasons, but perhaps the most obvious one is that I so rarely find ways to create purple outfits (this skirt was the only purple item I owned), but I received the purple striped top with the bow tie, the earrings, and the belt all in the same week, and BOOM! Perfectly purple.

This Monday’s Look

This was probably my favorite look of the week as it incorporated a whole slew of “favorites:” favorite vintage top, favorite Pinup Girl Clothing top, favorite Disney brooch, favorite style of hat – even my coveted peplum “New Look” silhouette. I can earnestly say that I will spend my whole life trying to find more of these vintage Catalina tops. Still a bit heartbroken that I found a pink version but it came with the full play-set and sold almost immediately. Definitely the one that got away.

This Tuesday’s Look

These shorts made their way into my wardrobe this week with the intention of using them for a future Disneybound. Of course then I realized I somehow don’t have nearly enough printed tops to pair them with! Most of my prints are represented in my bottoms. Guess I’ll have to change that….but hey, this outfit matched my new evil eye bracelets from Turkey perfectly!

Rainy overcast day means breaking out the “sleeved” shirts! Tried the “stripes as a neutral” look today and I can honestly say I’m in LOVE.  Must acquire striped tops now.  And I love that the red accents on the top matched the belt so well and pulled the look together so perfectly.

First week of summer vacation! Working at noon every day means my outfits generally have to take into account the Arizona sun beating down on me as I walk there. At least my legs will tan? Hard to believe that I was so anti-short even last summer!

Love,

Miss Lark Bahar

Thursday’s Look

Placed my own PUG order for the first time in over a year and made the purchase of their bright blue peasant top and canvas underskirt. Couldn’t wait to take the peasant top out for a run with my favorite striped shorts! I love that they redesigned it so the bust is larger, but was a bit bummed that the waist also seemed a bit larger and the sleeves a bit tighter (though those might just give with time). This might be the brightest outfit I’ve ever put together! And I was happy to find a use for my vintage yellow scarf.

Sunday’s Look

Took my new 1950s set out for a run today! I’m 95% positive this outfit was cut for a pre-teen (or a small chested teen) as the bust darts start at my armpits…but what a cute freaking set. The shorts fit me perfectly (and I MEAN perfectly…an inch tighter along the legs and hips and I wouldn’t be able to zip them up), and I’m a sucker for anything that’s made to match. Plus, this is the first outing of my Belle Disney pin, my favorite pin! She’s been sitting around waiting to be worn for ages.

Sorry I’ve been a bit absent this past week! Finishing up my semester at school, so was pretty busy. All done now though, and free to blog as much as I’d like!

Tuesday’s Look

This look is one I put together last year for a photoshoot for Le Bomb Shop for 4th of July. The skirt got lost in the space beneath my bed for almost an entire year, so I had to take it out for a run soon as I rediscovered it; however, the more notable part of my wardrobe was definitely my hair. I tried putting finger waves in my hair for the first time and after an hour and a half of fruitlessly attempting to finger wave the sides and tops of my hair, I gave up and settled for vaguely finger waving the top. While I love the look on others, I might just have too much hair for this. I ended up being inspired by the below test photo of Judy for Ziegfeld Girl, just had to sweep some of the top of my hair to the side since I had too much of it to stay back in a properly shaped way.

Thursday’s Look

Since I was planning on selling this skirt to fund a new Pinup Girl Clothing purchase, I wanted to put together a look with it. Whipped out my Tatyana cropped peasant top for it and went for a sweet look!

Saturday’s Look

Reset my hair for the weekend – sadly, had to take it out when it was slightly damp, so the back isn’t nearly curled as usual – but re-wore my Paris Jenny dress! Converted into a skirt for the day (which is apparently a slightly painful process with Jenny dresses because of boning…….) PS, pardon the poor-quality photos for the following two days – left my camera charger at work so had to work with a phone!

Last Week’s Tuesday Look

This outfit verges on being my all time favorite. The top is a new-to-me Catalina top that is the best fitting top I’ve EVER had, and the hat is my favorite of all time as well. As I was attending RuPaul’s Drag Race: Battle of the Seasons, I KNEW I had to put together a fabulous outfit, and I definitely think this did the job. And I knew there was no argument there when I got the end-all-be-all of approvals from the two best glamour queens out there, Violet Chachki and Miss Fame.

Last Week’s Sunday Look

This outfit was quickly thrown together for my review of Housewife Chic by Ruby’s brooches. I knew I wanted a blank canvas to properly show off my new brooches, so I went with a white top and just added on from there.

This Week’s Tuesday Look

To say I was excited for Tuesday’s look would be an understatement. Thanks to a good friend, I received one of my Pinup Girl Clothing unicorn dresses, the Paris Jenny! It’s taken all my will power not to wear this every day of the week because I love it so much. Jenny dresses are my new favorite reproduction dress style. The fit is perfection on me, and the boning doesn’t give me any problems like it seems to for other people!

This Week’s Thursday Look

The first black and white outfit I’ve ever put together! I was glad to finally found a use for these 1990s earrings as I planned around one of my new brooches I reviewed yesterday. Super casual and comfy! And PERFECT for the heat.

This Week’s Friday Look

This bright blue wool dress is the brightest item I have in my wardrobe. Decide to showcase various shades of blue with it for this outfit. The camera couldn’t properly capture the gorgeous color, and the bust is incredibly small on me, but the dress fits gloriously on my hips, and I’m happy to have something with a different neckline in my closet.

Monday’s Look

This combination is a tried and true look of mine as I bought the top ages ago for the purpose of matching with my Mary Blair Lips & Roses skirt. This top is lightweight and beautifully structured with seaming in all the right places. If I could choose any vintage top of mine to replicate in multiple colors, it would definitely be this one!

Tuesday’s Look

This is another tried and true outfit (though these shorts haven’t seen the light of day since last summer). Nothing is cooler than silk shorts and Le Bomb Shop’s Marilyn tops! And Lillian Madison’s Lady brooch definitely upped the outfit game by leaps and bounds, in my opinion.

Wednesday’s Look

I found this gorgeous capri/skirt combination in a Facebook sale group at an amazing price! As I’m a sucker for any kind of vintage skirt/capri combination item, I made the purchase despite the fact that I knew the sizing was an inch too small in the hips. When I received them in the mail, I was heartbroken to find that I could BARELY get them zipped up (despite the waist supposedly being an inch larger than my measurement) due to the narrowness of the legs/hips. These are going up for sale since I can’t even sit down properly in them, but I did at least get an hour’s wear out of ’em! Also, was completely smitten with the curls my bangs were falling in, so made sure to accentuate the finger-wave-esque look along the area.

Thursday’s Look

This might very well be my favorite look of the week just because of the HAT! I’ve had this hat on layaway since my birthday to match the custom playsuit I’m waiting on from Ains & Elke StyleHaus and finally paid it off and received it in the mail! I particularly love that the photos almost make it look like I’d gone with a higher, asymmetrical do on top because of my black hair blending into the asymmetrical black base of the hat. I’m so in love with this hat, that I’m contemplating creating a whole week of looks based around it! Shouldn’t be too tough since shades of blue and teal are most common in my wardrobe being my favorite colors to wear 😉

Friday’s Look

Speaking of my favorite color, I also recently acquired this gorgeous white top adorned with chickens and flowers in various shades of blue. I LOVE having a blouse with a bit of a pattern to match the border of my Pinup Girl Clothing Jenny Mary Blair Umbrellas skirt. I often grow bored of only being able to match solid tops to skirts with bold prints, and this small amount of print is just enough to lend the look that little something extra!

Saturday’s Look

As I knew I’d be heading to a drag show in a little town in Arizona, I decided to don an outfit that left me well prepared for the heat! Though the sun never ended up being a problem, I was certainly glad I was wearing shorts instead of a skirt or dress, and ended up with some AMAZING photos once I decided to play up a “drunk girl in the desert” look for fun ;). Besides, what a HAT!

Sunday’s Look

Today’s look was dedicated to my favorite Disney dame, Belle. Since I had a Beauty & the Beast sing-a-long to attend, I pulled together a quick Disneybound to emulate the outfit she wears in the “Something There” scene, with the added touch of birds as a shoutout to what happens at that point in the film. Looking back, I do wish I had a dusty purple to throw into the mix, but you work with what you have 😉

Tuesday’s Look

Today’s dress is probably one of my favorite dresses – a gown covered in ballerinas that I managed to find at an amazing price just because a few seams needed to be sewn back together! Sadly, the bust is extremely tight on me, and the waist much too large, but I knew I had to have this piece no matter size issues given the print. I’m a sucker for anything with a ballerina print!

Thursday’s Look

Thursday’s look is perhaps the most authentically 1950s look overall. Funnily enough, this shirt is from the 1990s, but I knew with the help of a bullet bra, it would give me that perfect silhouette over a sweeping skirt that I so love, so I hesitated only a moment before making the $8 purchase – and I’m so glad I made it! Although I’d love to be able to afford all 1930s-1960s true vintage, I find that one can mix and match pieces from different eras as long as the prints, material and cut match the era you wish to emulate.

Also decided to don one of two Harry Potter brooches I own as I’ve been re-watching the series again as I often do when desperate for distraction. Sadly, Hedwig rarely gets worn as her design wasn’t very well thought through and she falls sideways pretty immediately.

Saturday’s Look

I chose Saturday’s look knowing I’d be going out for a big steak dinner later in the day. My Vivien of Holloway capris fit me perfectly while remaining stretchy enough to accommodate a growing waistline ;). I ended up matching the restaurant with my gingham  top, so it ended up being the perfect outfit for the outing.

Sunday’s Look

This look was born out of a need to wear a large hat to hide my falling wet set, and the fact that I knew I wouldn’t be spending much time in the sun or much time moving my arms around. This pair of jumpsuit culottes is one of the coolest vintage finds in my wardrobe. Although the gal I bought it from and myself have a suspicion it’s a 1970s-1980s outfit, I love that it emulates a 1930s nautical look – and I’m generally not huge on nautical-inspired items. Sadly, this is another number that’s far too tight in the bust, (though this one fits my waist beautifully!) and it’s a bit too heavy for hotter Tucson weather while being impossible to layer over for colder periods, so it rarely gets worn.

Weekly Outfit Roundup (04/04/2016-04/10/2016)

Collage_Fotor

This past week has been another of quick climate changes here in Tucson, alternating between burning hot and overcast. While the overcast weather is beautiful, it’s admittedly been a bit of a trial to get photos of my outfits with the constantly shifting clouds, but here’s my roundup! As usual, my week consisted of a mixture of Pinup Girl Clothing items and true vintage. Hope you enjoy!

Tuesday’s Look

This is probably the most casual of my outfits for the week with the exception of the shoes. This was the first outing for these blue heels and probably the last with the exception of special events. They were extremely high which looks great but difficult to walk around campus in. The featured pin is one of my newest Disney pin acquisitions and I’m so glad I opted for it since the colors match such a large selection of my summer wardrobe! Also, if you want to get that casual vintage look, find yourself a vintage cashmere sweater! I got this one in a set of 4 for about $10 a piece from Etsy, and I love that sweater girl look – perfect to show off my What Katie Did bullet bra.

Thursday’s Look

This outfit was a bit different from what I normally wear as I’m generally not big on mixing prints, but I received both the top and the brooch on Wednesday and knew I wanted to wear them out! Turned out to be a great excuse to take my favorite skirt out for another spin. The top is a 1970s blouse that I pinned at the neck to create a 1950s keyhole effect that I feel pulls the silhouette together. Definitely my favorite hair day, too.

Friday’s Look

This is my favorite overall outfit as it’s inspired by my favorite Disney film and my favorite leading lady. I decided to get some use out of my Belle & Chip earrings that rarely see the light of day since I need my hair to be up to show them off properly, and one of my other new Disney pin acquisitions – the stained glass rose. To up the princess look, I also threw on what I like to call my Cinderella shoes.

Sunday’s Look

This outfit came about just because I wanted to make use of these 1950s bottoms that I haven’t worn in awhile. They don’t match much aside from black, and I find that the skirt looks frumpy on me due to the length unless I walk around lifting the skirt, so these don’t see the light of day much, but it had been months since I wore em out, so I figured I could go with a darker look to contrast the brightness of Friday’s outfit. This time, as I had acquired a pile of safety pins, I tried pinning the skirt up on the waist band to show of the capris and I absolutely fell in love! I plan to make this a permanent change as I believe it flatters me (and the cut) much better.

Weekly Outfit Roundup (03/28/2016-04/03/2016)

Collage_FotorWelcome to my first Weekly Outfit Roundup!

This is where you’ll find me posting my collection of outfits composed of a mix of vintage and reproduction from the week! Hope you enjoy!

This week came as a blessed relief here in Tucson as our desert climate dropped down to the 60s! Perfect excuse to wear the longer sleeves, hotter materials, and tighter skirts that it’s generally just too hot to wear these days.My favorite outfit is definitely a tie between Thursday’s and Friday’s look, and the hair-dos from these days were also two of my favorite looks on myself of all time. The white top I’m wearing by Pinup Girl Clothing in the second outfit is one of my favorite cuts for a top and fits me much better in the waist than most PUG tops, but the shirt runs extremely tight in the arms so rarely gets used. I can’t bring myself to give it up since I’m a sucker for a standing collar and it’s the only one in my wardrobe (and it balances out the voluminous Jenny skirt from PUG so brilliantly!), but wearing it definitely comes with a bit of discomfort. My second favorite features my new pink peasant top from Tatyana acquired in their recent 50% off sale. It’s a thin top, but that makes it perfect for summer here. It’s a nice cheap alternative to Pinup Girl Clothing’s peasant tops if you’re willing to show a little midriff (though they have long versions available as well!) and wear a top that doesn’t necessarily accentuate your waist but definitely gives you that youthful look.

Love,

Miss Lark Bahar
