Weekly Outfit Roundup: (03/20/2017-03/26/2017)

Hello all!

So much has happened since my last post. I’ve been feeling out a variety of jobs ranging from a full-time position at a call center to a part time position working for Ulta as I try to balance my interests with the need to make a living, leaving me little time for my blog. I’m hoping this hectic time in my life will soon straighten itself out so I can really plunge back into my blog and commit to it like I was able to when a student.

That said, as I’ve wholeheartedly committed to my position with Ulta, my wardrobe is going to be undergoing a bit of a change. With a wardrobe that must be black (or black and white) for the role, I’m hoping to switch my wardrobe to one with a more 1940s focus so I can properly play up the colorful accessories – aka hats – I plan to don for my shifts. While I’ll wear my normal, colorful garb on off days, you can bet that I’m using this opportunity as a little push to start truly experimenting with ’40s hair and fashions as I’ve been debating doing for ages. I’m almost as excited for this as I am for the actual job!

Anyway, without further ado, here’s my last week of full, slap-you-in-the-face, brightly colored wardrobe images.

Miss Lark Bahar

Tuesday’s Look

This was the day I decided to quit my full-time position in order to join the Ulta team, and wanted to go out with a bang in one of my favorite outfits that includes Vance Clothing’s marvelous hand-painted Hercules skirt she made for me.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Noir Red
Holly’s Hoop Earrings in Purple Glitter: Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Purple Striped Top with Scarf: Etsy shop MissSarahBelle
Purple Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
Hand-Painted Custom Hercules Skirt: Vance Clothing
Purple Heels with Gold Embellishment: Thrifted

Wednesday’s Look

I realized upon accepting the Ulta position that I have…very little plain black in my wardrobe, so my roomie and I quickly went thrifting downtown to look for clothes for me to wear. Walking around outside naturally meant bringing out the summer clothes for our warm weather. I was honestly surprised I still fit into this set, considering my weight gain the last few months. Thank goodness I did! One of my favorite looks. Casual ’50s is so underrated in the vintage and pinup community these days, if you ask me.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Wild Orchid
Peter Rabbit Brooch: Etsy shop LaviniasTeaParty
1950s Top & Shorts: Thrifted
Olive Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
Yellow, Green, & Light Brown Bangles: Buffalo Exchange
Brown Straw Purse: Thrifted

Saturday’s Look

I volunteered to help a local shop vend at our local Street Fair, so once again, had to prepare for lots of heat and sweat. I certainly stood out in a shop that primarily sells black clothes! But I’ve been DYING to wear this custom made dress since I received it months ago and couldn’t pass up the opportunity…particularly knowing my upcoming wardrobe color restrictions.

WEEKLY OUTFIT ROUNDUP (10/17/2016-10/23/2016)

Hey everyone!

Welcome back to another outfit roundup. Had some exciting new things show up in my wardrobe this week.

Miss Lark Bahar

Monday’s Look

I was incredibly excited about the outfit I put together today as it was a gift from an amazing gal that’s been sitting in my closet waiting for the appropriate season. I even avoided trying it on to give myself something to look forward to and was shocked when the fit looked so perfect! Although the waists are a bit large, the jacket renders the skirt waist invisible anyway, and the belt the set comes with helps synch the waist of the jacket in. Just marvelous. My first ever suit set! Ah how I wish I could fill my wardrobe with numbers like this……(Side note, I look Snow White levels of pale in the close-ups! So strange.)

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Victory Red
1940s Vintage Floral Hat: Gifted
Gold Earrings: Thrifted
Vintage Mask Brooch: Thrifted
1950s Blue Suit Set with Gold Flecks: Instagram shop FarFromHereVintage
Jenny Skirt in Mary Blair Umbrellas: Pinup Girl Clothing
Black Seamed Tights: Transparenze brand from Amazon
Navy Blue Slingback Heels with Gold Embellishment: Thrifted

Thursday’s Look

Getting as much use out of this amazing skirt as possible before Halloween passes and I go unapologetically into full-on Christmas mode. First time wearing my gorgeous new  Barn Owl brooch (whom I’ve named Madam Mimsy-Porpington) won in a recent Instagram giveaway from Small Victories Handmade. Perfect Halloween-y accessory!

Custom Purple Halloween Pin-Up Skirt: Etsy shop HollyDaiBoutique
Cosette Petticoat (x2): Malco Modes
Black Heels with Gold Embellishment: Thrifted

Friday’s Look

Hadn’t worn this skirt in awhile, so decided to throw together an outfit using it. Ended up matching my ghost brooch beautifully! Gotta bring the spooky into every look, after all….even if it’s not an autumn-y color-scheme.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Red Velvet
Lavender Bebe Earrings: Revere Folie
Ghost Brooch: Gifted
Red Peasant Top: Pinup Girl Clothing
Lavender Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing

WEEKLY OUTFIT ROUNDUP (08/29/2016-09/11/2016)

These past two weeks have been a bit hectic for my roommate and I for various reasons, so we were able to document fewer outfits of mine. Luckily, two weeks yielded a decent enough number for a roundup post!

Miss Lark Bahar

Last Monday’s Look

I decided to pull out one of the wiggles I won from a Vivien of Holloway giveaway around Christmas last year as I transition into fall/winter styles. Since this is a bright dress, I don’t have much of a window to wear it since it’s too warm for most months here, but I figure it’s close enough to summer to work for now. It is still in the 100s after all. Side note: I definitely have to acquire some sort of glue to seal the heels of all of my shoes. They really take a beating with all the walking I do.

1950s White Platter Hat: Thrifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Victory Red
Graduated Champagne Pearl Necklace: Vivien of Holloway
Jezebel Red Sweetheart Bust Dress: Vivien of Holloway
White Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
1950s White Gloves: Thrifted
Tights: Can’t recall
White Heels: Thrifted

Last Friday’s Look

I’ve been dying to wear this capri skirt set for ages but the thick brocade material just made it too hot to justify. But just like the outfit above, I’ve been in the autumn mood, so I finally decided to wear em. It’s been so long that I actually forgot how poorly they fit. Really need to take them to the tailor and get the front area taken in and the seat area let out. I actually popped a button at work! And yet there’s so much loose fabric in the front…

Green Scarf: Thrifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Merlot
1970s Leaf Top: Instagram shop FarFromHereVintage
Purple Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
1950s Purple, Green, & Red Brocade Skirt/Capri Set: Etsy shop LawrenceofBaltimore
Green Heels: Thrifted

This Tuesday’s Look

Again, this outfit was trying to work in a bit more of an autumn-friendly aspect, this time with color-scheme. I realized I’ve not been wearing all of my beloved shorts lately, so decided to plan a darker look with my striped shorts for my brooch review this week.

Beaded Pineapple Earrings: Etsy shop 221Broderie
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Blood Red
Purple Marilyn Top: Le Bomb Shop
Spectrespects Embroidered Brooch: Etsy shop 221Broderie
Red Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
1950s Striped Shorts: Thrifted
Black Flats: Thrifted

This Thursday’s Look

Went full-on summer garb with this look, but ah well. It’s a transitional period 😉. I had fun with all the accessorization! I really need to get this dress in autumn-friendly prints.

The Leilani Tropical Cluster Hair Flower: Belle Blossoms
Pink Snood: Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Heather’s Big Resin Tear Drop Earrings in Blue Glitter: Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ American Beauty
Customized Pinup Brooch: Lillian Madison Designs
Lydia Dress in Rose Border Print: Pinup Girl Clothing
White Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
White Canvas Underskirt: Pinup Girl Clothing
Cosette Petticoat (x2): Malco Modes
Pink Satin Heels: Thrifted

This Friday’s Look

I honestly have no words for how much I am in love with this vintage dress. I got it awhile ago but didn’t want to wear the wiggle in the heat, so figured I’d save it for autumn-time to give me something to look forward to. I’m so glad I did! I have never had a wiggle that fit me so perfectly since my proportions are so curvy, but this dress is honestly a dream. It feels absolutely amazing on and even has my most coveted of necklines: the wide-set square neckline. Such a beautiful piece. I wish it photographed as beautifully as it looks in person (but prepare for spam anyway).

Pearl & Gold Earrings: Thrifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Victory Red
1950s Olive Green Wiggle w/ Ecru Lace Overlay: Thrifted from Dorothea’s Closet Vintage
Pearl & Gold Bee Brooch: Thrifted
Cream Heels: Thrifted

I’ve been so bad about the outfit roundups lately…..sorry, guys! Life’s been all over the place with the move, and these take a bit too long for me to make time for ’em lately. I promise I’ll go back to writing them every week after this.

Week of 07/04/2016-07/10/2016

This is actually an outfit that I threw together for a shoot for Le Bomb Shop last 4th of July that I never ended up wearing. Figured I loved it so much, might as well bring it back!

Earrings: Gifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Victory Red
Clear Hair Comb: Grip-Tuth Brand from Belle Blossoms

Definitely my favorite new acquisition from this past month was featured in this outfit – my custom hand-painted Hercules-themed skirt from Miss Lillian Vance! You can check out my review of it here.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Merlot
Purple Striped Top w/ Scarf: Etsy shop MissSarahBelle
Meg & Hercules Brooch: Disney Pin

I knew I wouldn’t have to walk out in the heat, so I decided to take my favorite wool dress out for a run.

This was the first run this summer of a dress that accidentally disappeared in my closet. A huge shame since it’s the perfect summer staple for those days its too hot to wear…anything, really. Good thing summer in Tucson lasts 3/4 of the year! I had fun color blocking the various shades of purple – something I’ve started doing recently.

Belle’s Purple Hydrangea Side Comb: Belle Blossoms

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Merlot

Week of 07/11/2016-07/17/2016

This was the week we went apartment hunting and ended up getting approved! So only one outfit, but the first outfit photographed in our new place!

1950s White Platter Hat: Thrifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Exotic Pink
Mickey Breakfast Platter Brooch: Etsy shop TheSweetMouse

White Heels: Thrifted

Week of 07/18/2016-07/24/2016

This outfit featured a dress I had originally purchased with plans to save it for a Disneybound at Disneyland, but given the plans changing given the apartment move, I decided I couldn’t wait that long to wear such a perfect summer dress!

1960s Pink Pillbox Hat: Gifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Exotic Pink

1950s Pink & White Sundress w/ Pink Bow Embellishment: Thrifted
White Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
Cosette Petticoat (x1): Malco Modes
Pink Satin Heels: Thrifted

This outfit is definitely 1950s casual in my opinion. While it’s perhaps not my favorite of pairings, the prints, colors, and shape of the whole look definitely feels time-period accurate to me.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Victory Red

Blue-green & Silver Bird Brooch: Thrifted
Purple Grommet Belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
1950s Blue, Purple & Green Floral Capris: Thrifted
Nude Heels: Bettie Page Shoes

This is another one of those “I know I don’t have to walk in the heat, so I’m going to wear sleeves” outfits. Always happy when I can don this ballerina-printed dress! Despite the fact that the bust is about 4″ too small. (Excuse my bruised up legs….moving is quite the chore!)

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Cherry Red
1950s Ballerina Printed Purple Dress w/ Belt: Etsy shop Vintage5677
Pink, Black & Gold Dancing Couple Brooch: Thrifted
Cream Heels: Thrifted

Remember how I mentioned I’ve started color-matching my wardrobe with solids? So much fun! All yellow for this outfit – a color I’d NEVER thought I could pull off until recently. Throwing in some extra photos just because I love the look so damn much.

1990s Dangly Pearl Earrings: Etsy shop CruzVintage
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Merlot
Ratatouille-themed Disney Brooch: Etsy shop LePetitMouse

Week of 07/25/2016-07/31/2016

The day of the Harry Potter & the Cursed Child midnight release! Obviously had to dress up like the Ravenclaw that I am for the night. Head over here to see a blog post all about the experience.

This Tuesday’s Look

Having received a whole bundle of items from the wonderful shop Lady K Loves the past week (review to come), I knew I had to try to avoid wearing and showing off the items until my blog post, but just couldn’t resist at least wearing the staple piece that came in the lot! So I planned this outfit around the beautiful black wrap top.

Pearl Earrings: Thrifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Merlot
The Splendid Top in Black: Lady K Loves

Jenny Skirt in Queen of Hearts Border Print: Pinup Girl Clothing
White Canvas Underskirt: Pinup Girl Clothing
Taupe/Mauve Heels: Thrifted

This Thursday’s Look

This was the last little hurrah for this dress of mine as it’s simply too short and the bust too small. It’s currently on its way to a new home, but not before I got to pair it with one of my new hats gifted to me so kindly by my great aunt for a cute, Southern Belle kinda feel!

Vintage Straw Hat w/ Black Ribbon and Flowers: Gifted
Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Victory Red
Floral Lotti Dress: Hell Bunny
Nude Heels: Bettie Page Shoes

This Friday’s Look

I’ve been avoiding wearing this skirt as it’s a part of a set custom made for me by Ains & Elke Stylehaus that I planned on reviewing, but I’m so booked that I figure eh…….people will forget by the time I get to it 😉 And also….balloons!

Gates Pass Photoshoot for Le Bomb Shop with P. Bencomo Fotography

Relatively recently the wonderful Melissa from Le Bomb Shop contacted me asking to model an outfit for her (as I was given the opportunity to do last year when she found my humble little Instagram), and naturally jumped at the chance! As she had a desert landscape in mind for this range of photos to show off the Senorita Pop-Art style skirt she wanted me to model, I knew exactly where I wanted to go to show off Tucson’s desert without the obstruction of modern cars and houses: Gates Pass. My go-to photographer, the amazing Phillip from P. Bencomo Fotography, was more than happy to take the images for me, so we agreed on a trek up into the mountains to catch the rising sun before the heat waves made shooting impossible.

Lark Gates Pass 2016-13-X2

While we only got one image that caught the sunrise, I love how moody it turned out! I had assumed I would be exhausted, waking up at 2am to get ready for my shoot, but my body felt surprisingly alert as I posed, and the lack of sleep didn’t catch up to me until the drive home.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the venture:

This one in particular is my favorite shot showing off the desert. So beautiful! Such a great composition on Phillip’s part.

I loved getting to play around with the way this top tied itself as well. So versatile, and I warmly welcome any article of clothing that fills out my rainbow wardrobe a bit more. Rust is such a rare color to find with vintage reproduction clothing, yet it matches so much!

Since we were driving up to the desert at the crack of dawn, I figured I might as well pack a few of my own outfits to take advantage of the opportunity, and we ended up with some of my favorite close-ups and sitting images of all time in the batch (we’ll ignore that darn stray strand in my bangs that kept popping out…):

Weekly Outfit Roundup: (05/09/2016-05/15/2016)

Sorry I’ve been a bit absent this past week! Finishing up my semester at school, so was pretty busy. All done now though, and free to blog as much as I’d like!

Tuesday’s Look

This look is one I put together last year for a photoshoot for Le Bomb Shop for 4th of July. The skirt got lost in the space beneath my bed for almost an entire year, so I had to take it out for a run soon as I rediscovered it; however, the more notable part of my wardrobe was definitely my hair. I tried putting finger waves in my hair for the first time and after an hour and a half of fruitlessly attempting to finger wave the sides and tops of my hair, I gave up and settled for vaguely finger waving the top. While I love the look on others, I might just have too much hair for this. I ended up being inspired by the below test photo of Judy for Ziegfeld Girl, just had to sweep some of the top of my hair to the side since I had too much of it to stay back in a properly shaped way.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Besame Red

Thursday’s Look

Since I was planning on selling this skirt to fund a new Pinup Girl Clothing purchase, I wanted to put together a look with it. Whipped out my Tatyana cropped peasant top for it and went for a sweet look!

Friday’s Look

This look was primarily put together so I could wear a big hat and cover my deteriorating hairdo. So comfortable, though!

Saturday’s Look

Reset my hair for the weekend – sadly, had to take it out when it was slightly damp, so the back isn’t nearly curled as usual – but re-wore my Paris Jenny dress! Converted into a skirt for the day (which is apparently a slightly painful process with Jenny dresses because of boning…….) PS, pardon the poor-quality photos for the following two days – left my camera charger at work so had to work with a phone!

Sunday’s Look

Only dressed up to go to the grocery store today to pick up a few essentials for my Harry Potter feast with my little sister and roomie, so planned something  around my red hat which is only wearable to a few places.

Drag Races at Arizona Hops & Vines (04/23/16)

While struggling with constant failures of technology (cars breaking down, laptops breaking down…) as I’m in the throes of final papers, one of the few things keeping me sane was/is an impending week of drag shows. Today’s show was hosted by the winery and brewery Hops & Vines located in Sonoita, Arizona – about an hour’s drive from Tucson.

Having never travelled in this direction in Arizona before, I was taken aback by the quickly changing scenery as hills rolled before me, grass started to sprout and…lo and behold…trees appeared before my very eyes! The scenery felt so different from any area I’d been in in Arizona before, that I mentioned it to someone afterwards only to find out that Oklahoma! was actually filmed in the area (though the cornstalks had to be imported)! As one of my favorite musicals, this was pretty exciting to find out, and I now have plans to pop the film in my DVD player and check it out.

Once we walked up the hilly, dirt-covered, gravel path up to Hops & Vines after parking, we all noticed two things: one, the wind was INSANELY strong and the hats we brought were not going to be used much, and two, we probably shouldn’t have worn heels.

Taco hat syndrome – no good!

The event had a surprisingly good turnout as a $10-$20 ticket came with one food ticket for the present food trucks, six drink tasting tickets, and one souvenir wine glass, but sadly, the majority of attendees were not in drag. There were hardly more than a handful of drag queens who’d gone full out – with the occasional fellow adorning a dress – so my friends and I made our way inside the actual winery to make use of our free drink tasting tickets. We weren’t smitten with anything we tried except for the first white wine, appropriately titled “The Drag Queen.”

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

After making use of our last drink tickets, we made our way outside to watch the drag race. While the drag race itself was a sprint that hardly lasted a minute before it was over, I was incredibly impressed by the two gals actually booking it to the “finish line” in heels (the winner wore sneakers – cheater!), as well as the pure fabulousness of the girls who walked slowly behind, milking every step and moment. Sadly, my favorite gal of the day was a sprinter in heels, so I hardly had the chance to try to keep my hair out of my face in the extreme wind enough to see her run by, much less attempt taking a photo!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

After the race itself, we went back inside to avoid the high winds for awhile before deciding to head back to the car to drop off our bottle of The Drag Queen and take a few photos for my outfit of the day. Along the way, we saw a group of queens taking photos, so quickly ran over to take the opportunity. The gal on the right was my favorite of the lot since her blue outfit, make-up, hair, and generally everything was so on point, and she also happened to stick around the longest – the only queen who stayed till the end of the event. They were all incredibly sweet and friendly and seemed to want to take a photo with me as much as I wanted to take a photo with them. The cost of being the only other person who looked “dressed up,” I suppose 😉

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

After the quick photo op with the drag queens, we moved on to have one of our own in the parking lot. The wind – and our headlong dive into cliche desert photos – led to some great images (of all sorts).

All in all, it was an amazing event. While I think it could draw a wider array of spectators and participants if the “drag” portion of the show lasted more than a minute (lip-sync battles, anyone???), the cost was more than worth it considering the wine tasting, free food ticket, photo ops, race, and the gorgeous surroundings – with the wind keeping us cooler than us Tucsonans are accustomed to. The inside of the brewery was a mild temperature with plenty of comfortable seating the majority of the time and a classic Southern Arizona feel. They’re supposedly having another similar event while showing “Casablanca,” and I fully plan to attend!
