Outfit Roundup Catch-up/Masterpost: (05/23/2016-07/03/2016)

It’s been more than an entire month since my last roundup! Figured I would put together a giant post as a catch-up.

This look was a bit out of the box for me, but I haven’t worn this skirt in ages and liked how the shades of the top matched the skirt when paired with a bright red belt to pull it all together.

This look – while something I’d be more likely to wear in the cooler months normally – was thrown together for my review of the gorgeous Paris blouse.

I love love love this outfit for a whole slew of reasons, but perhaps the most obvious one is that I so rarely find ways to create purple outfits (this skirt was the only purple item I owned), but I received the purple striped top with the bow tie, the earrings, and the belt all in the same week, and BOOM! Perfectly purple.

Week of 05/30/2016-06/05/2016

Hands down one of my favorite outfits of all time! I just love these colors and everything matches so perfectly top to bottom. I felt so pretty! And this was the first time I took my Pinup Girl Clothing underskirt for a run.

I’m generally not a huge fan of red, white, and blue…but this outfit fit together too seamlessly to ignore! And I’m always glad when a chance to wear this hat arises as I don’t find it terribly versatile.

I’m still kind of amazed at how well my outfit matched. Such unusual color pairings, yet I seemed to acquire every article of clothing in the world that features them.

Week of 06/06/2016-06/12/2016

I adore the sweetness of this outfit! Yellow’s another one of those colors I’m hoping to expand in my wardrobe – particularly yellows of the buttery variety. I’d always felt yellow would look atrocious on me, but I’m so pleasantly surprised.

This was another one of those “I probably wouldn’t be wearing this if I had to walk around at all today” outfits. Pencils are a no-no in 115+ degree weather! I wish I could use this skirt in the spring and summer time to give it the lighter look it deserves, but it’s just too hot normally.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Cherry Red
White Summer Blouse with Chicken & Flower Embroidery: Thrifted

I try to avoid wearing this dress so much so it’s not repetitive…but it’s just too darn versatile to ignore! Matched my Belle Blossoms flowers perfectly.

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics’ Besame Red
Chip Brooch: Hungry Designs

I like blue….that’s about all I have to say about that 💙

Week of 06/20/2016-06/26/2016

Had the pleasure of adding these capris to my wardrobe this past week. The first real tiki-style print I own! Also was working with my natural hair this week – which means my victory rolls were about 10x as large.

Haircut day! So I planned my outfit around a hat to camouflage my un-styled hair.

Haircut! Yayyy. This outfit was thrown together as a last minute Disneybound of Dory to go see Finding Dory. Love that it came out feeling a bit ’30s with the darker look and shorter hair.

This Monday’s Look

This was probably my favorite look of the week as it incorporated a whole slew of “favorites:” favorite vintage top, favorite Pinup Girl Clothing top, favorite Disney brooch, favorite style of hat – even my coveted peplum “New Look” silhouette. I can earnestly say that I will spend my whole life trying to find more of these vintage Catalina tops. Still a bit heartbroken that I found a pink version but it came with the full play-set and sold almost immediately. Definitely the one that got away.

This Tuesday’s Look

These shorts made their way into my wardrobe this week with the intention of using them for a future Disneybound. Of course then I realized I somehow don’t have nearly enough printed tops to pair them with! Most of my prints are represented in my bottoms. Guess I’ll have to change that….but hey, this outfit matched my new evil eye bracelets from Turkey perfectly!

This Wednesday’s Look

Rainy overcast day means breaking out the “sleeved” shirts! Tried the “stripes as a neutral” look today and I can honestly say I’m in LOVE.  Must acquire striped tops now.  And I love that the red accents on the top matched the belt so well and pulled the look together so perfectly.

My 10K Giveaway, Pt. 2: Custom Hand-painted Skirt from Vance Clothing, Belle Blossoms Hair Accessories, and My Premier Amour Custom Blouse

Hello friends and followers!

As I’m sure many of you have seen on my Instagram, I recently hit 10K followers! 🎉🎈💥

d782ba3a-252d-439c-b585-9f0ef0c8de50 (1)

This is something that I had never imagined was a possibility! After all, it wasn’t THAT long ago that I was reeling over hitting just 1K. I’m so appreciative to all of my followers, old and new, and particularly appreciative of all those friends who stuck by my Instagram even when I started flooding it with photos of my vintage clothing.

Having seen this impending momentous occasion, I wanted to give a little something back to everyone, so sent out a call asking shops to collaborate with me. I was so pleasantly surprised at the wide range and quantity of responses, that I decided to split my giveaway into two parts, accessories, and bigger ticket items!

For this portion of my giveaway, 3 separate winners will be chosen for my three separate prizes. Here’s a break down of all three items and the contest widgets where you can enter. The contest ends June 12th – same date as the corresponding Instagram portion of my giveaway.

Prize 1:

The first item on my list is perhaps my favorite of the donated items as the possibilities are endless! Although I had known Miss Lillian Vance previously, it was upon seeing her photographs with Miss Victory Violet in Disneyland that I realized she is one of those talented people who can hand-make and hand-paint skirts! I immediately contacted her asking if we could work something out, and I am officially in her queue to get a skirt painted with Meg’s “Won’t Say I’m in Love” scene in Hercules.

I’m thrilled to announce that she’s also offering up a skirt for my contest! The skirt can be of cotton or felt material (your choice), and she’ll paint one image on it of your choice, as well. This is such a huge prize, and I’m so happy to give you all a chance to win one of her gorgeous works of art.

(A note, since this is a custom item, it’ll be at least a month before you receive it so Vance Clothing has time to discuss options with you, then sew and hand-paint it.)

Prize 2: The second item on my list is a selection of hair accessories from Belle Blossoms, one of my all-time favorite hair flower designers out there, and my go-to shop for hair snoods and the holy grail brand of hair combs, Grip-Tuth. Though I haven’t been using flowers lately as the selection I had reached an untimely demise over the past year, I’m eagerly awaiting some hair flowers from Belle Blossoms myself and was so happy when she agreed to donate items for the giveaway.  She created a hair flower she calls “Erica’s Irish Wedding Clip” for my giveaway as well as sending along a white snood and a white scarf, perfect for wedding or daily wear in the hot summer time (pictured below)!

Prize 3:

If you saw my last post on my blog, you’ve seen my review of my custom My Premier Amour Charm & Eloquence blouse made for me with the gorgeous Paris print.

The final item in the blog portion of my giveaway is this same blouse in an adorably kitschy cat print customized to your size! Perfect for warmer or cooler weather, and to add that little extra bit of interest into your wardrobe with the peplum cut (pictured below).

(Note: Since this item is also made just for the winner, it will take around 2 weeks to get the top made from the time the winner is chosen.)

If smaller accessories float your boat, you can also head over to my Instagram for Part 1 of my giveaway and the chance to win all of these adorable items:

All you have to do is repost this image with the hashtag #misslarkbahar10kgiveaway on Instagram and follow the involved shops in the loop. For further details, head on over to my post about it.

Good luck everyone, and thanks for sticking around!

Spotlight Saturday: Review of My Premier Amour’s Charm & Eloquence Blouse

Probably one of my favorite stylistic developments in the past year has been the peplum top. Whether cut to be worn as a peplum top, or a top I choose to wear over my skirts belted in a way to give the illusion of a peplum, they’re my favorite kind of top. I find that it adds variation to the oft-seen, common silhouette of the shirt tucked into the skirt/capris/shorts look one finds in most vintage and pin-up scenes while still retaining the gorgeous waist-defining look we all love.

When Daniela from My Premier Amour contacted me about a certain upcoming collaboration and offered to send me an item to review on my blog as well, I was ecstatic to visit her site and find peplums for sale!

Screen Shot 2016-05-28 at 8.18.57 PM.png

After giving my bust and waist measurements and a quick discussion on what fabric I would like to use based on her on-hand selection…

…and whether I wanted a cream or black polka-dot mesh for the top, she quickly headed to the sewing room. In about 10 days, my blouse was shipped (though her website sites an average 2 week turnaround time as her items are generally custom)!

My top arrived quickly and softly packaged, with a cute little tag attached. Although I had been unsure whether the Paris print in pink would match the black mesh well enough (a decision I made solely because I’m a huge sucker for sheer black items), I was pleased to find it actually ended up matching perfectly.

Since I knew I wasn’t planning on spending any time outside today aside from walking to and from the car (I went to see the new Jane Austen film Love & Friendship – a brilliant satire – and grabbed dinner with my family and roommate), I decided to take my custom blouse out for its first outing. Though the sleeves are a very light mesh and so endurable in the Tucson heat for short periods of time, any kind of sleeve at all quickly results in feelings of discomfort in the heat here (the primary reason Le Bomb Shop’s Marilyn Tops get so much use in my summer wardrobe), so I knew I wanted to stay safe and wear it when I’d be inside.

I decided to pair it with a deep maroon vintage skirt and a breton hat of mine to play off of the “European” feel of the top and to play up the Paris-themed print.

The top did run a bit larger than I had anticipated as I gave my exact measurements, but as I had already fully planned on wearing it with a belt, this didn’t prove to be much of a problem. It still looked great on and was super comfortable with stitching in the right places to accommodate my strapless longline bullet bra, and plenty of room in the arms to move around (a problem I often encounter), and plenty of room in the neck despite the high cut.

I’m particularly fond of the fact that the fabric comes up high enough in the front to hide my vintage bullet bra (which is cut higher as they often are, so can’t be worn with many of my reproduction items), so I can wear this top without any kind of bra strap showing, creating a smooth line along the back and chest that’s usually broken up by some kind of line.

At just $32 a piece, these tops are extremely affordable custom options for the pin-up or vintage-lover on a budget who’s still looking for a well-constructed piece that will easily fit into one’s wardrobe while adding interest. I’m incredibly impressed by the craftsmanship!

(PS – ignore how uneven the hemline looks in the right photo, I’d just tugged it down too far and hadn’t noticed!)

Although these tops were my favorite, she has a whole slew of affordable designs that you can find on her website or Etsy, and she even popped in a little surprise gift!

You can find her/contact her via these social medias:
Email: mypremieramour@gmail.com

And if you like what you see, I’d definitely keep an eye on my blog 😉
